2 July 2009 - Progress update:

All the videos have now been completed, converted, categorized and proofed. Work is still progressing on the global server component, slowly but surely - one step at a time. Testing at the component level remains very encouraging for the whole product.

13May 2009 - Progress update:

Six video clips and a large number of "construct" clips have now been completed. Editing of individual clips (constructs) is progressing well. These are:

Banking (easy) - female patient
Banking (easy) - male patient
Banking (medium) - female patient
Banking (medium) - male patient
Banking - female patient
Banking - male patient

Further, we have completed the filming of all the individual constructs contained in these scenarios.

Work is still progressing on the global network server and it is anticipated that this will remain the case for a while as this is a complex piece of software. Once this is completed however we will be very close to being able to release version 1 of our software to the unsuspecting world...!

8 April 2009 - Progress update:

The LAN (Local Area Network) organizational network distribution component is finished and tested. Work is progressing well on the WAN (Wide Area Network) global network distribution component. I expect a significant update on this component (and the project) by the end of April. We may also be shooting videos (banking clips) before the end of this month!

In brief:

We have put two programs into beta and a third has passed its "proof of concept" stage.

Details of software development progress:

  • "Control panel" which allows the creation of targeted scenarios in "Subject, Verb, Object" fashion and provides a broad range of metrics for complexity documentation. This is now in beta stage.
  • "Copy-typing" which acts as a "proof-of-concept" module and provides the patient with high frequency highly targeted words which they are able to copy using keyboard. Upon completion of each word (or word series) the patient selects either "hard" or "easy". This acts as a very simple form of feedback to the therapist and provides a crude indicator of improvement (or otherwise) over time. Its primary objective is as a proving ground for other components. This is now in beta stage.
  • The network component (used for distribution, updates, patient management etc.). This has now passed the "proof-of-concept" stage and is under active development as a library component. On completion of this component the following functionalities will be enabled:
    • automated distribution and updates of "scenarios"
    • automated transfers of patient statistics from their computer directly to the therapist
    • other functionalities currently under consideration / development

About this project:

The WORDB project provides a theoretical framework supported by sophisticated software to assist patients with (initially) Broca's Aphasia, combining advanced computer science with speech therapy.
